Pokémon Go’s September Community Day focuses on Roggenrola, the rock-type Pokémon from Pokémon Black and White’s Unova region. As usual with Community Days, the featured Pokémon will spawn in monstrous numbers, its Shiny rate will be increased, and it’ll learn a special move when you evolve it.
Our Pokémon Go Roggenrola Community Day guide will explain how to get a Shiny Roggenrola — and how to make the most of the event period.
Roggenrola Community Day is on Sept. 18 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time.
How do I find a Shiny Roggenrola?
According to The Silph Road’s research, Shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few Shiny Pokémon.
If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense and then quickly tap each Roggenrola to check for Shiny ones and then run from them if they’re not Shiny. Notably, any Roggenrola you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.

What Community Day move does Roggenrola’s evolution learn?
If you evolve Roggenrola to Gigalith on Sept. 18 from 2-10 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the charged attack Meteor Beam.
If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Meteor Beam. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.
How does Gigalith do in battle?
In PvE content like raids and gyms, Gigalith is a strong rock-type attacker. It does lag behind several special Pokémon, like Legendaries, Shadows, Mega Evolutions, and other rock-types with legacy moves. Thanks to the Community Day, Gigalith will be easy to get and power up, so you definitely should grab one while you have the chance.
Gigalith doesn’t see much use in PvP. Rock-type Pokémon have lots of vulnerabilities and Meteor Beam doesn’t help boost its place in the meta.
How do I make the most of Roggenrola Community Day?
In addition to the bonuses above, Roggenrola Community Day has the following perks:
That said, you should definitely put any eggs you have into Incubators during the event, pop an Incense, and grab a bunch of Roggenrola Candy. Boldore requires 200 candy to evolve if you don’t trade it first, so it’ll be good to stock up.
If you can Mega Evolve an Aerodactyl or Aggron, you’ll also get additional candy per Roggenrola catch.
In addition to all this, Niantic is still running special four-star raids from 5-10 p.m., where if you clear the Boldore raid, Roggenrola will spawn in a 300-meter radius around the gym for 30 minutes. These raids cannot be done remotely. If the usual 2-5 p.m. spawn increase doesn’t get you the Roggenrola you wanted, you can try raiding for another chance.
